Hooker's Green Bass Machine is a simple bass overdrive effect that can be thought of as an amp simulator/preamp, making it possible to reproduce the vacuum tube sound that is essential to the old-school rock sound, using the transistor amps found in live houses and studios.

It is intended to be used with "modern transistor amplifiers" equipped with EQ, and the TREBLE knob is for fine adjustment. Setting the gain low will create a high response with a dynamic range, and increasing the gain will create a stable distortion sound with strong compression.
A trim pot on the side of the body that boosts the bass is installed to accommodate low-down tuning and use with multi-string basses, and it is suitable for a variety of musical styles and playing styles, from blues to hard rock to metal, as well as slap playing. The wide dynamic range means it can be used not only with bass but also with guitar.

The power supply can be 9 to 18V.
This model is extremely convenient to carry around, thanks to its compact, mini-sized body, which is perhaps the smallest of its kind for a preamplifier.
