Pulp N Peel V4 is the result of more than six years of tweaking, improving and experimenting. The previous model, Pulp N Peel V3, is installed on the pedalboards of over 1,000 players around the world, and is a compressor that has gained a reputation for being used by players who don't like compressors. In version 4, we have expanded the circuit's capabilities and added new features to expand the use of compression pedals, new tones, and new territory, while maintaining the sound and functionality of Pulp N Peel that we have built up so far. It now has more headroom, smoother and more sustained tones, a parallel overdrive-drive circuit, parallel 1/4" out and DI out, and tone controls.

Pulp N Peel V4 features Volume, Compression, Blend, EQ controls and a Dirt switch. The Volume control is a standard master volume that cuts/boosts the output signal. The main improvement of the V4 is that it has a cleaner headroom than ever before, making it easier to lead boost or drive a tube amp. The Compression control adjusts the amount of compression/sustain, and turning it clockwise gives you more compression and longer sustain. The Blend control works like a fader on a mixing console, and turning this control clockwise mixes the compressed sound (wet sound) with the dry sound (original sound) of the parallel output. This allows you to perfectly control the balance of attack and clarity of the compressed sound without losing the original tone of the guitar and amp. The EQ control changes the compressed sound (wet sound) to a brighter/darker tone. When set to 12 o'clock, the EQ control is disabled, and when turned to the left, the tone becomes darker, and when turned to the right, the tone becomes brighter. The Dirt toggle switch works in conjunction with the Dirt trim pot on the right side of the case, and sets the amount of dirt/overdrive sent to the signal path to any value. This control will feel like magic to players who only want compression and distortion as the core of their tone, or to bass players who want to control their mix with one device. The switch to the left of the Dirt trim is a switch to turn the internal buffer on/off. Turn it off for true bypass. However, if you are running long cables, we recommend turning the buffer on to prevent sound quality degradation.

The input/output is a standard 1/4" mono jack and is powered by a 9V DC center negative power supply. The output has an XLR DI out, so it can be connected directly to a mixer or studio interface and can also be used as a DI out for a bass or acoustic guitar. If you experience hum noise due to a ground loop, flip the ground lift switch to the LIFT position.
